Padmanabh Singh was born on 12 July 1998. He has a sister and a brother. His parents were Diya Kumari, the only daughter of Bhawani Singh, and Narendra Singh, the son of a member of staff who worked for Bhawani Singh. His parents’ marriage was characterized as a member of the former royal family of Jaipur State in Rajasthan, India, marrying the lowly son of an employee, was seen as a social mismatch and caused much angst at the time. When the parents’ couple drifted apart, Bhawani Singh, who had himself opposed the marriage but then officiated in a low-key ceremony, adopted Padmanabh Singh as his heir in 2002.

When Bhawani Singh died in 2011, Padmanabh was informally “crowned” as the Maharaja of Jaipur, although such royal titles were legally abolished in India decades earlier. Officially under the guardianship of his maternal grandmother at the time of his assumption of the role, he gained the responsibility of his family estate upon reaching the age of 18.

Padmanabh Singh was educated at Mayo College in Ajmer and at Millfield School in Somerset, UK

He is 18 years old as of 2018.

The wealth of the royal family is estimated to be between $697 million and $2.8 billion.

Singh spends his time playing polo, studying liberal arts, walking in fashion shows, and traveling the world.

Just like the grandfather, Bhawani Singh, and great-grandfather, Man Singh II, Padmanabh is an accomplished polo player. He began participating in competitive polo in 2015 in England and has been a member of Guards Polo Club. In 2017, he led an Indian national team at Hurlingham Park in what was the first visit to the venue by an Indian team in over 70 years. His grandfather had led the last successful Indian polo tour of the UK.

How do you define fashion? What does it mean to you?

While fashion is different for every person, for me it is all about keeping it simple and classic. I pay a lot of attention to details and like to keep my attire very elegant, and at the same time, bold. It is very important to dress and look good, as it makes you feel confident.

What do you consider your personal style statement?

I like to dress elegantly and am particular about details such as getting the cut and pattern right for my suits. I also like styling my attire with accessories such as pocket squares, socks, and lapels pins.

What was your last purchase?

My last purchase was a double-breasted three-piece suit.

What do you think of men’s jewelry? Do you wear any?

I prefer wearing elegant jewelry. For instance, I would like wearing jeweled heritage buttons with a bandhgala. Also, when it comes to ceremonial events, I wear jewelry from Star of India and our heritage jewelry, which includes a necklace and a sword.

Do you prefer tailored or off the rack? Where do you get your clothes tailored? What brands do you favor when shopping?

I prefer tailored clothes, as I like getting the cut and pattern of my suits right. For Indian clothes, I prefer Raghavendra Rathore, and when it comes to Western clothes, I like the Argentinian brand, La Martina. I also love shopping at London’s Savile Row, where I can get bespoke suits from the old English tailoring houses located there.

How would you describe the perfect suit?

A perfect suit for me is double-breasted, with the right cut and pattern. I do not like boxy shoulders and usually opt for a slanting cut. Also, I like thick lapels for my suits – I feel that makes them look more elegant.

Do you have any wardrobe fetishes?

I have a fetish for watches and have inherited my grandfather’s huge collection. I also love Panerai, for their perfect mix of Italian design and Swiss technology.

What are the casual and formal items every man must own?

Every man ought to own a well-tailored suit for formal occasions. Linen shirts and pants are ideal for casual use.

How do you like to change things up for weddings and formal events?

Last month, I debuted at the Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris and chose a white tie, three-piece tailcoat for the occasion.

What is one piece of style advice you would give all men?

The only style advice I would offer anyone is that while sticking to your personal style, do ensure that your attire looks elegant. Try to keep it simple, classic and accessorize well.

What goes into maintaining your hair and beard?

I keep my face clean shaven, but I pay a lot of attention to my hair. I do not use too many products for it, however, I really like a well-groomed wet look with a side parting for a formal event.
